New VoIP infrastructure for Rega’s Operations Centre
A fully integrated communication solution was developed for Rega's Operations Centre that is perfectly tailored to its processes. SCS has developed a new telephony infrastructure based on Voice-over-IP (VoIP).
-
Problem definition
Swiss Air-Rescue Rega was renewing its mission control system and needed a fully integrated communications solution based on VoIP for telephony and radio connections.
-
SCS solution
A new telephony infrastructure was developed by SCS. The system is based on Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and includes a user interface tailored to the needs of the incident commanders as well as two VoIP telephones per workstation.
-
Added value
The system is closely linked to an operations control system from Hexagon and thus provides ideal support for the operational processes of the incident commanders.
Project insights
In addition to voice communication and simple Polycom calls, the system also integrates Rega’s own radio system, Remico, which was also largely developed by Supercomputing Systems AG.
In addition to the introduction of the new systems, Rega’s IT infrastructure was relocated to external data centres. The core elements of the telephony infrastructure run redundantly at two geographically separate locations. This ensures a high level of system availability.
The staff at the operations centre were closely involved in designing the operation of the system so that it could be optimally adapted to the work processes.
The development of the system, including going live, took just under a year, so that the overall project plan could be adhered to unchanged.
