AI-optimized Search & Rescue Flight Planning Algorithm
When a person goes missing, airplanes, helicopters and drones are often deployed. In order to efficiently plan the search routes of the aircraft, various meta-information is included in addition to topological data. In this work, an AI-based algorithm with a SAR-associable knowledge database will be evaluated and developed to calculate optimal flight routes.
Project
When a person goes missing, the SAR (Search and Rescue) service sounds the alarm. Aircraft, helicopters and drones are often used for the search. In order to plan the search routes of the aircraft efficiently, various meta-information is now included in addition to topological data.
In this work, an AI-based algorithm with SAR-associable knowledge database will be evaluated and developed to calculate optimal flight routes for SAR aircraft
Task
The following work is to be carried out as part of this Master's thesis
- Evaluation of concepts and algorithms for optimal flight route planning (FRP)
- Capture of flight route-associable metadata: e.g. emergency calls, Earth Observation Data ...
- Evaluation and implementation of a suitable knowledge database (WDB)
- Evaluation and implementation of an ML/AI-based FRP algorithm that calculates optimal flight routes by incorporating the WDB
- Benchmarking of the developed SAR flight route planning algorithm using real data
