Tech event: AI & data sovereignty for ID photos
ID photos are among the most sensitive personal data. Despite this, they are often processed by international services in the cloud. Visible Solutions took a different approach and commissioned SCS to develop robust AI algorithms that are hosted in a Swiss cloud infrastructure.
Visible Solutions has developed the Photo Collect platform to process large volumes of ID photos – for companies, governments and public organisations. Today, it is the most widely used platform for the automated processing of ID photos. Various algorithms process the photos, for example recognising the position and orientation of faces, removing the background and checking the quality for public documents.
Many of these algorithms are offered by international cloud providers. However, international cloud solutions are not a suitable option for ID photos, which are considered particularly sensitive personal data. For this reason, Visible Solutions and Supercomputing Systems (SCS) have developed their own solution with suitable machine learning algorithms, supplemented by carefully selected open source components.

This tech event will focus on the topic of “digital freedom”. We will examine the following questions in particular:
- How do you develop such algorithms yourself – robustly, precisely and in production quality? What hurdles were there and how were they solved?
- What cloud and GPU infrastructure is already available in Switzerland – and how do costs, security and trade-offs compare with international providers?
