Building technology

The technical infrastructure in buildings has a long service life. We support product manufacturers and property operators in the development, planning and optimisation of systems. Right from the start of product development, but also for existing systems when a retrofit becomes necessary, for example.

  • Product development and retrofits

SCS has extensive experience in the development of hardware and software. We are happy to contribute our know-how from over 2000 realised projects. In the infrastructure sector, these are often retrofit projects where the electronics and software of key elements are replaced and modernised at the same time.

  • Commissioning and optimisations

In the building sector, it is important that the tools for commissioning and maintenance are simple and intuitive. Digitalisation should make life easier. The developers at SCS help to close digital gaps and develop intuitive tools for everyday use. They help to optimise existing systems.

  • Digitalisation and IT security

Today, all field devices must be able to communicate. They should be easy to install and yet secure against attacks. Achieving this requires a great deal of experience, which we are happy to contribute. Software updates should also run automatically, without causing any headaches for the IT manager.

Security by design – Data access by design

The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the updated Radio Equipment Directive (RED, EN 18031) require information security for networked, digital products. In addition, the EU Data Act sets out requirements regarding access to and use of device and system data. In order to meet the new requirements and to be able to offer future-proof, competitive products and systems in Switzerland and the EU, it makes sense to consider fundamental aspects of information security and data access at an early stage of development.

Whether new or existing products: Manufacturers need to consider how they can meet the requirements appropriately. In a joint discussion, we use a standards checklist drawn up in collaboration with legal experts to analyze which rules are relevant. From this, we develop a concept for implementation based on the experience of our developers from projects in related areas. In this way, we find feasible, intelligent solutions and offer support from the design and feasibility phase through to implementation, maintenance and operation.

Product development

Products in building technology must be durable, intuitive to use and yet secure against unauthorized access. Simple installation of updates, adding and adapting interfaces, a gateway that connects systems from different manufacturers: We have experience with communication systems and support our customers in the technical design and implementation of new devices or product generations – from very simple, battery-operated devices to complex systems with large bandwidths.

Tools for commissioning and maintenance

How well a product is received by the market depends largely on the tools for commissioning and maintenance. These should be simple and intuitive so that even less well-trained personnel can operate them. The developers at SCS have experience in developing intuitive front ends that can be operated reliably and responsively.

Existing buildings

98% of buildings are existing buildings – which account for around 40% of Switzerland’s energy requirements. The control of buildings can often be optimised and a lot of energy can be saved. We have experience with the control of systems, complex algorithms and artificial intelligence. The strengths of modern image processing can often be used to recognise patterns or errors and map the real world with the digital world.

Building Information Modelling (BIM)

More and more general contractors are relying on digital twins when planning buildings and are exchanging information intensively with their subcontractors using BIM software. The data can also be used later during maintenance and provides service technicians with important information. Crucial here too: The application must be simple and intuitive. We support manufacturers in developing their software accordingly.

Retrofit

If an individual component in a system has reached the end of life, it is not always necessary to replace the entire system. It is often cheaper to retrofit the individual components. And more resource-efficient. SCS now regularly carries out retrofits. The system is often modernised at the same time. A retrofit is a good opportunity to install additional functions or to network a device that was previously inaccessible.
