Initial Situation

For a long time, electronic patient records were primarily operated within the local IT infrastructure of practices and clinics. ndd devices could be connected via existing interfaces, but this always required on-site IT personnel. With the increasing shift of patient records to the cloud, ndd needed a new way to securely transfer measurement data directly to platforms like athenaOne without individual on-site integration.

SCS’s Contribution

SCS developed a central platform for ndd on Microsoft Azure that connects existing spirometry devices with various cloud-based EHR platforms and handles the secure exchange of measurement data.

Cloud-to-Cloud Connected

The platform centrally connects ndd devices with EHR platforms. This eliminates the need for individual technical connection of each device by on-site IT personnel.

Measurement Data Directly Adopted

For platforms like athenaOne, the ndd cloud is considered a trusted data source. This allows transmitted measurement values to be directly incorporated as entries into the electronic patient record.

Users Centrally Managed

IT administrators of healthcare facilities manage their users independently via a web application. Identity management was implemented using Azure AD B2C.

Secure and Audit-Proof

All transactions are documented in an audit log protected against alteration. At the same time, the platform meets the cybersecurity requirements of the connected EHR providers.

Result

With the cloud platform, ndd can connect existing devices to cloud-based patient records without individual on-site installation. A software update is sufficient, after which the devices can be integrated into the operations of healthcare facilities using a plug-and-play process. This made cloud connectivity accessible to all healthcare facilities that manage their patient administration via supported cloud platforms. For ndd, this resulted in a concrete competitive advantage and access to new customers. The platform can also be expanded to include additional EHR providers.
