Background
The combustion of gas and diesel in the same engine requires particularly reliable, dynamic, and precise control. While standard solutions are available, closed systems limit further development and often create vendor dependency. WinGD therefore required an open control platform on which its own control and optimization algorithms could be freely developed and expanded.

The SCS Contribution
SCS developed hardware, FPGA firmware, and software for a distributed control system. WinGD’s control and optimization algorithms run on this in real time, keeping the engine at the optimal operating point.

Result
Following the joint planning phase, SCS developed the complete control system in less than twelve months, from specification to finished hardware. Despite the tight schedule, quality remained the focus. Marine classification by Bureau Veritas was achieved on the first attempt. WinGD now has an open and modularly expandable control platform for different engine types. The system enables simple commissioning, transparent operation, and the continuous further development of proprietary control and optimization algorithms. Since October 2020, the CMA CGM Jacques Saadé has been sailing with the 12X92DF and the SCS control system. The platform is being further developed in collaboration with WinGD.
