Initial Situation

Aramedes aimed to combine traditional watchmaking with functions that cannot be achieved purely mechanically. This required integrating additional electronics into the watch within a very confined space. The electronics had to be small, lightweight, and particularly energy-efficient, interact closely with the mechanical components, and simultaneously connect to a smartphone.

Result

The collaboration resulted in a fully integrated system comprising mechanics, electronics, firmware, and a smartphone app. Despite the severely limited installation space, the electronics achieve a battery life of several years and enable functions that could not be realized with a purely mechanical movement. Depending on the model, the Mecca Collection offers up to three additional electronic functions for daily religious life: auxiliary dials at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock show the direction to Mecca, daily prayer times, and sunrise and sunset during the fasting month of Ramadan. In 2021, Aramedes launched the brand and products at Dubai Watch Week, presenting them to an international audience.
