Cosmic radiation regularly causes memory errors on the ISS. SCS developed an FPGA-based emulator for EADS to specifically simulate these errors and test the error correction of the Mass Memory Unit before launch into space.
A discontinued microprocessor does not have to lead to the next dependency problem. For suitable retrofits, SCS uses a System-on-Module with Linux to further develop existing devices over the long term and enable new functions.
